Monster Hunter World’s Best Early Armor

Monster Hunter World throws new players right into the mix of things. Between choosing your favorite weapon, learning how to use mantles, the Slinger, and the Clutch Claw; picking the best armor early in the game can be overwhelming. We wanted to take some of the complexities out of the equation by showing you what we think is Monster Hunter World’s best early armor.

You start the game in a basic outfit, but you’ll want to quickly upgrade to something a little sturdier. And the perfect set for the job is the Jagras armor. You will need to fight the Great Jagras several times to carve all of the parts you need, but this dreadlocked lizard is one of the easier fights in the game to conquer. The first mission where you encounter a Great Jagras is the one star quest, Fungal Flexin’ in the Ancient Forest. You don’t need to capture or defeat it there, but it’s as good a place as any to start. It has approximately 1,408 HP (depending on its size) if you’re playing the mission solo.

Take notice that the skills aren’t anything to write home about, but that’s okay. Early in the game, you’ll likely still be determining what your favorite weapon and playstyle is. The Jagras armor will give you enough defense to do that.

After getting your feet underneath you, you’ll want to craft a more powerful armor that caters to your choice weapon and playstyle. Don’t ever feel like you’re bound to just one armor set either. In Monster Hunter, experimentation and diversity are key. Eventually you’ll hit High rank, and Master rank after that, and the whole process starts again.

Once you’ve defeated the requisite number of Great Jagras and other smaller monsters needed to craft all of the pieces, you’ll have what we think is Monster Hunter World’s best early armor.
