The Witcher 3: Hearts of Stone expansion added a new mechanic in Runewords and Glyphwords. These enchantments imbue weapons and armor with special traits not available anywhere else. Glyphwords are for armor, but for this guide, we wanted to take you through the best Runewords for The Witcher 3.
Preservation
A feature we’ve loved since the very first version of The Witcher 3 is Armorer’s Tables and Grindstones. However, the number of times we’ve activated these boosts, only to realize mid-battle that they’ve expired are too numerous to count.
That’s where the Preservation Runeword comes in. You’ll need a Lesser Svarog runestone, a Lesser Morana runestone, and a Lesser Devana runestone to create it. Once you’ve activated the enchantment, the buffs from Armorer’s Tables and Grindstones never expire. It doesn’t get much better than that.
Placation
This Runeword comes with a tradeoff, but one we think is completely worth it. Once you activate Placation, your Adrenaline Points have a modified function. After filling to their maximum level, your points will begin to decline until they are completely spent. However, during this slow drain, your vitality and stamina constantly regenerate, and toxicity from potions declines much faster.
To unlock Placation, you’ll need a Lesser Devana runestone, a Lesser Morana runestone, and a Lesser Stribog runestone.
Rejuvenation
You’ll want to make sure every hit you land is a fatal one with Rejuvenation active. This Runeword is one of our favorites. It doesn’t grant a complicated bonus, but what it does do can mean the difference between life or death in a battle with large groups of enemies. Once you’ve equipped a weapon with Rejuvenation, every time you make a fatal blow, you’ll regain 25% of your stamina.
To activate this incredibly useful Runeword, you’ll need one Perun runestone, Svarog runestone, and Stribog runestone.
Prolongation
The Prolongation Runeword will take a bit of time to unlock. This is mostly because it requires a Greater Morana runestone, Greater Perun runestone, and Greater Svarog runestone to craft. Once you’ve gathered the necessary materials and equipped it to a weapon, the bonuses it grants are very useful.
Prolongation does exactly what it sounds like it should do. For each unblocked attack that lands on an enemy, you’ll gain a half-second to the duration of your currently active Potion. It’s great for fighting large monsters with a particular potion weakness that won’t go down in one hit.
Elation
Once you have Elation active, each fatal blow will grant between 0.1 and 0.25 Adrenaline points. Equip this on a sword and Placation on another weapon for a great one-two punch combination. This is a Level 2 Runeword, so it will take a bit of time to unlock. But it’s not impossible to collect the required Dazhbog runestone, Veles runestone, and Devana runestone.
Runewords make a huge difference in how you approach combat. If you’re looking for more guides, be sure to check out these great articles. Remember, a Witcher’s job is never done!
